Cambodia Celebrates 68th Independence Day Anniversary

PHNOM PENH: The Kingdom of Cambodia has successfully celebrated the 68th anniversary of the Independence Day on Tuesday. The ceremony was headed by King Norodom Sihamoni and was attended by the government officials and leaders, especially Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Prior to the lighting of the "victory torch" the King has greeted people at the Independence Monument. He was also warmly welcomed and greeted by different groups from different sectors in Cambodia including the ambassadors from different countries.

The "victory torch" symbolises the independence that was achieved by Cambodia on the 9th of November 1953 through the effort of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk. He successfully freed the whole nation from the French protectorate after four years of negotiating.

In a message on Tuesday, Prime Minister has remembered the sacrifices of the late King Sihanouk which resulted to liberty that every Cambodian now is enjoying.

Following the torch lighting, King Sihanouk continued a short round of greeting people. Due to Covid-19, the number of people attending the important event in the kingdom was limited. Although, there were still many who witnessed the 68th anniversary celebration coming from government ministries and other institutions. No people from the general public to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19. The King has a short talk with the Prime Minister at the area before leaving.
